Over a million Road Traffic prosecutions are brought each year. The consequences can range from a small fine to endorsement (points) of the licence and even disqualification from driving. That can lead to loss of employment and dire financial consequences.
Bishop and Light has extensive experience of representing Defendants in the Magistrates Court charged with Road Traffic Matters. Even the most apparently simple charge - careless driving for example - can involve complex issues of fact and law.
Did you know that :-
If you are a "new driver", ie
have passed your test within the past two years, then you stand to lose
your licence if you amass 6 penalty points within that period.
If you are a "totter" (ie amass 12 points on your licence) then
you will usually lose your licence for at least 6 months. However, the Magistrates have a discretion not to disqualify you if to do so would cause "exceptional hardship".
If you are accused of drink driving or driving without insurance then you may escape disqualification if the Court is satisfied that there are "special reasons" for not doing so. Examples of special reasons are a very short distance driven or an emergency.
