We specialise in defending those being investigated for or accused of Fraud. Fraud cases require particular expertise as well as the resources within a firm to deal with the case properly. Our expertise has been recognised by the Legal Services Commission and we are founder members of the Specialist Fraud Panel (the first Sussex firm and only Brighton firm to have membership).

We can assist with any kind of fraud allegations, including investigations and charges relating to mortgage applications, VAT issues, Companies Act matters and any other kind of financial irregularity.

Non means tested Legal Aid is usually available.

From 14th January 2008 only firms on the Legal Services Commission Very High Cost Cases Panel can take on lengthy complex cases on Legal Aid. The definition of a Very High Cost Case for these purposes is one where the trial is expected to last 41 days or longer.

If a firm takes on/continues a case which fulfils these criteria and which is not on the Serious Fraud Panel then the fees of the firm are likely to be disallowed on taxation.

We are pleased to accept referrals of Serious Fraud Cases from other firms or directly from clients.

Andrew Bishop and Kevin Light have particular experience in Fraud work and Kevin Light has developed an expertise in confiscation proceedings, including succeeding in the House of Lords this year in the case of R. v. Saik [1996] UKHL 18. Call on (01273) 732733 if you would like to discuss this further or e mail us on law@bishopandlight.co.uk
